Week 6: Let the Run to the Playoffs Begin

This is it. Will Alex Smith help shake the losing stench from the Bay area & finally live up to the number 1 pick? After pleading With his head coach not to be benched in Sundays loss to the Eagles, he played rather well. Can he get it together? Lets just take a look at the numbers

San Francisco 49ers (0-5)
15.2 PPG (27th in the NFL)
Pass Offense 233 YPG ( 11th in the NFL)
6 TDs 9 Ints 10 Sacks
Rush Offense 77.2 YPG ( 28th in the NFL)
2 TDs 12 Fumbles 3.7 YPC

26.0 PA (27th in the NFL)
Pass Defense 227 YPG (21st in the NFL)
9 TDs Allowed 4 Ints 10 Sacks
Rush Defense 111 YPG (18th in the NFL)
3 TDs Allowed 0 FF

Oakland Raiders (2-3)
22.2 PPG (11th in the NFL)
Pass Offense 205 YPG ( 20th in the NFL)
6 TDs 6 Ints 16 Sacks
Rush Offense 134 YPG (7th in the NFL)
3 TDs 2 Fumbles 4.4 YPC

26.8 PA (28th in the NFL)
Pass Defense 198 YPG (10 in the NFL)
10 TDs Allowed 2 Ints 10 Sacks
Rush Defense 147.8 (31st in the NFL)
6 TDs Allowed 1 FF

With McFadden out ,the Raiders will have a little trouble keeping the 49er defense honest. Look for the 49er defense to target the Raider QB ( Either Gradkowski or Campbell) due to injuries on the O-Line.

I think this game will come down to which defense wants it more. The 49ers GM says they are going to win the division. This week they start their historical quest.

Oakland 20
San Francisco 23

MNF : Tennessee Titans @ Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars have come to play this season. The team has managed to win 3 games already this year. MJD is playing well and their passing attack isnt as dead as it seemed in the preseason. They have already proven that they can win against a quality NFL team. But ,i say this with no bias, Monday nights match-up verses the Titans will be their toughest test yet. Historically the Titans have played a physical style of football that not all NFL teams are used to. Both teams have big physical receivers & 2 of the best runningbacks in the NFL. Neither defense would be considered soft by any means. With both teams coming off of wins, this divisional match-up is going to be a good one. Lets take a look at the numbers.

Tennessee Titans (3-2)
26.4 PPG (4th in the NFL)
Passing Offense 154 YPG (28th in the NFL)
7 TDs 3 Ints 12 Sacks
Rushing Offense 138 YPG (6th in the NFL)
7 TDs 3 Fumbles 4.6 YPC

19.0 PA (14th in the NFL)
Pass Defense 242 YPG (27th in the NFL)
6 TDs Allowed 7 Ints 22 Sacks
Rush Defense 101 YPG (11th in the NFL)
1 TDs Allowed 5FF

Jacksonville Jaguars (3-2)
21.4 (12th in the NFL)
Passing Offense 165 YPG (26th in the NFL)
9 TDs 6 Ints 12 Sacks
Rushing Offense 146 YPG (4th in the NFL)
2 TDs 3 Fumbles 4.4 YPC

27 PA (30th in the NFL)
Pass Defense 282 YPG (29th in the NFL)
12 TDs Allowed 4 Ints 11 Sacks
Rush Defense 102 YPG (13th in the NFL)
6 TDs Allowed 2 FF

The key to this game is the Jaguars offensive line. They have allowed 12 sacks through 5 weeks. In that same time span the Titan defensive line has racked up a league leading 22 sacks. The passing attack in Jacksonville is already suspect and if they can rush Garrard into some mistakes the Titans opportunistic defense will make him pay. I expect a close one but I think the Titans have too many positives going for them right now to drop this game.

Tennessee 24
Jacksonville 17

Here are the rest of my picks for the weekend

Rams (2-3) @ Chargers (2-3)
The Chargers are playing way below their potential. Look for them to get back on track this week against a Rams defense that was obliterated by then winless Lions last week.

St Louis 10
San Diego 35

Saints (3-2) @ Bucs (3-1)
At this point in the season who would have thought that the Bucs would be 3-1? Better yet who would have thought the Saints would be 3-2? The Saints just cant seem to get it together & this young Bucs team is learning how to win. I'm calling a late game upset.

New Orleans 21
Tampa Bay 24

Chiefs (3-1) @ Texans (3-2)
Each team will try to force their style of play on the other. The Texans want it to be a shootout, and if thier pass defense doesn't tighten up, it will be. But if the Chiefs can establish the run this game will be lopsided. As crazy as it sounds I'm picking the Chiefs based on their secondary & linebackers.

Cheifs 30
Texans 21

Those are my picks.  Constructive feedback , good or bad, is much appreciated.
